PAINTING

Painting is an important art activity. It is two-dimensional in nature, and involves the application of colours on a given surface. The art of painting is essentially color work, and it involves various types of paint and many techniques. Painting is a mode of expression in visual art.

MEANING OF PAINTING

painting is the planned application of colours on any prepared surface to create meaningful purpose or effect. Colour is the medium for painting, and it has three characteristics: hue, value and intensity. 

Painting is an art activity, and artists respond to colour in painting in various ways and at different levels. Colours can be used to simplify and describe an object, it can be emotional eg blue for sadness, red for anger. It can also be symbolical i.e represent something eg the green on the Nigerian flag represent agriculture. Colour can also be psychological, it can be used as a therapy.
